Antique Japanese Carved Boxwood Large Netsuke Type Statue of a Shishi Lion God

A beautiful antique Japanese carving of a lion god. The piece is heavy and we think it is boxwood maybe. Excellent details. It is missing a toe and a claw and some hair. See photos for details. There is also a natural crack in the wood. Displays great and is a rare piece dating from the late 1800's. No marks but there is a remnant of a possible import stamp on the bottom.
It is 6" tall
The weight is 1.1 pounds.
