19th century boxwood netsuke of a crouching wonderfully warty toad. Excellent carving perfectly capturing the essence of the creature, great sense of volume, beautiful depiction of its skin on the back. Extraordinary done large double inlaid horn and turtleshell convex eyes with underlying gold foil producing superb live effect, beautiful wear and patina. Length 2 3/8 inches.
